North Carolina Central University Chancellor Search
Chancellor Johnson O. Akinleye, 12th chancellor of North Carolina Central University (NCCU), has announced his retirement, effective at the end of the 2023–2024 academic year on June 30, 2024. The announcement was made during a meeting of the NCCU Board of Trustees on Jan. 12, 2024. A national search has been initiated to identify NCCU’s next chancellor.
In accordance with state law, the chancellor serves as the administrative and executive head of the University of North Carolina (UNC) System's component institution, exercising executive responsibility under the president's guidance. According to state legislation, the president must select the nominee from a list of candidates suggested by the institution's board of trustees, and the Board of Governors must elect a chancellor upon the nomination of the president.
We must involve the public voice in selecting the ideal Chancellor for North Carolina Central University. We ask all stakeholders, including those from the university and the community, to offer input from the beginning of the search process by participating in this survey.
