The College of Arts and Sciences has 13 undergraduate degree programs, including Aerospace Studies, Art, Biological and Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Environmental and Geographic Science, History, Interdisciplinary Studies, Language and Literature, Mass Communication, Mathematics, Music, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physics, and Theatre.

Fab Lab

NC Central is joining the Maker Movement! In collaboration with the Media Lab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), we have opened a Fabrication Laboratory, or Fab Lab. The NC Central Fab Lab is part of a worldwide network of laboratories, ensuring our students have access to real opportunities to produce!

CREST

The Centers of Research Excellence in Science and Technology (CREST) establish an infrastructure and level of student participation suitable to justify (both in student quality and quantity) the future establishment of PhD programs, thus expanding the University's ability to increase minority representation in the sciences.

Art

The Department of Art's overarching mission is to foster broad inquiry with the visual arts, including engagement with non-western cultural studies and diverse aesthetic experiences.

Biological and Biomedical Sciences

The Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences prepares students to be competitive in the global biomedical science field. We are committed to providing intensive instruction and training in the life sciences and prepare our students for a variety of careers in education, government, private industry, and the health professions. 

Chemistry and Biochemistry Sciences

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Sciences provides students with an educational environment that will stimulate their intellectual curiosities, enhance and develop academic and professional skills in chemistry and chemistry-related disciplines, promote self-assurance and discipline, and instill a dedication to the advancement of science and scientific knowledge for the benefit of all peoples. 

Environmental, Earth, and Geospatial Sciences

The Department of Environmental, Earth, and Geospatial Sciences teaches students the analytical and methodological skills necessary to understand the earth's environment and man’s impact on the environment. 

History

The Department of History is essential to the core of liberal arts at North Carolina Central University. Our diverse population of faculty and students engage with teaching and learning history through innovative research, exciting courses, student projects, digital humanities, public history, and service learning.

Language and Literature

The Department of Language and Literature engages students with languages, cultures, literature, linguistics, and writing. We foster students’ analytical and creative thinking and teach communication strategies that account for global perspectives to prepare students for civic and professional life.

Mass Communication

As one of the newest departments of its type in the nation, the Department of Mass Communication prepares students for careers and study in mass communication by offering engaged learning, student media and research experiences, and connections to professional practice opportunities.

Mathematics and Physics

The Department of Mathematics and Physics conducts active research in a broad range of areas, from algebra, analysis, geometry, statistics, and topology, to mathematical biology, mathematical finance, numerical analysis, and scientific computing, to condensed matter physics, nanomaterials, and nuclear and particle physics.

Music

Alongside traditional music courses, we encourage open-minded debate and a commitment to all types of music. Our alumni go on to become award-winning musicians, industry professionals, and educators. Come join our vibrant and dynamic community of talented and innovative students and faculty!

Pharmaceutical Sciences

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences engages in interdisciplinary teaching and research that provides relevant real-world expertise. We prepare our students to become skilled scientists who excel intellectually and professionally in a global environment, with many pursuing careers in science and management or graduate school.

Theatre

The Department of Theatre is designed to satisfy the needs of a broad range of enthusiastic students. With a wide exposure to humankind's accomplishments in theatre and experiences that will develop them as capable theatre practitioners, our students are ready for the stage and for the world!
