Student Success Services Program
The Student Success Services (SSS) Program is a five-year, $1.1 million federally funded TRiO Program intended to improve the retention and graduation rates of first-generation and income-qualified students and students with disabilities at North Carolina Central University.
Housed within University College in suite 227 of the Alexander-Dunn Building, SSS offers its approximately 140 participants personal and academic support, tutoring, supplemental instruction, academic counseling, developmental programming, and financial literacy workshops to overcome barriers to success. Students who meet the criteria will be eligible to apply for an Educational Opportunity Grant to help reduce their dependency on loans.
SSS will provide services to increase the persistence, academic achievement, and graduation rates of financially challenged, first-generation, and disabled students as follows:
- Assist participants in acquiring the necessary skills, knowledge, and attributes to complete a post-secondary education;
- Maximize opportunities for financial assistance by improving the financial and economic literacy of participants; and
- Identify graduate and professional opportunities.
The Student Support Services program at NC Central will strive to meet the following grant objectives:
- Serve 140 participants each year,
- Confirm 77% of all participants served will persist from one academic year to the beginning of the next academic year or will have earned a bachelor’s degree,
- Ensure 75% of all enrolled participants served by SSS will meet the performance level required to stay in good academic standing, and
- Affirm 45% of new participants served each year will graduate within six years.
