Zora Neale Hurston amongst a group of people
Famed writer and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston taught drama at NCCU in 1939 after traveling to Jamaica (1936), Haiti (1937) and later Honduras (1947).

Dr. Layla Brown
Dr. Layla Brown is a 2009 NCCU History graduate and Northeastern University assistant professor of Cultural Anthropology and Africana Studies. Her research focuses on pan-African, socialist and feminist social movements in Venezuela, the US and the broader African diaspora.

Dr. Daniel Sharpe Malekebu
A 1913 NCCU graduate, Malawian Dr. Daniel Sharpe Malekebu was born in Chiradzulu, Blantyre District, and became a medical doctor, anti-colonial activist and president of the National Baptist Assembly of Africa.
