Billionaire Industrialist and Philanthropist to address NCCU Graduates

Serial entrepreneur and author Trisha Bailey, Ph.D., will serve as the keynote speaker for North Carolina Central University (NCCU)’s 143rd Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 4, 2024. 

Bailey, the richest Jamaican-born woman, brings over two decades of expertise to the medical industry. As the visionary founder and CEO of Bailey’s Pharmacy and Bailey's Medical Equipment & Supplies, she passionately provides love and care to the elderly and disabled. With 16 successful companies employing 500 personnel under her belt, including the largest equestrian farm in Florida, Bailey's achievements are extensive. She has been named JP Morgan Chase Woman of the Year and 2023 Supplier of the Year, as well as Top Minority Provider in the Nation. Additionally, she is the first Black individual honored with a building in her name at the University of Connecticut. Her philanthropic efforts include significant donations to athletics programs and millions contributed to the United Foundation Central Florida, enabling hundreds of students to attend college. Her autobiography, "Unbroken," chronicles her journey from a broken childhood to financial success. 

Commencement festivities will kick off with the graduate and professional ceremony at 9 a.m. followed by the baccalaureate ceremony at 2 p.m., both in McDougald-McLendon Arena, 700 E. Lawson St. Ceremonies will stream live on the university’s website and YouTube channel.  
 
To ensure the safety of graduates and guests, NCCU will conduct security checks at both commencement ceremonies. Additionally, the university will implement its clear bag policy. All permissible bags must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC, and less than 12" x 12"x 6". Exceptions will be made for medical and baby needs. Small wristlets and clutches (less than 4.5" x 6.5" x 1") with or without a strap are permitted.
