Former Roc Nation Music President Named NCCU Executive-in-Residence

Career includes significant contributions to success of Jay-Z, Rihanna, 21 Savage and more

The North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Department of Mass Communication announces Benny Pough as the latest Executive-in-Residence for an innovative special topics course in entertainment promotion and marketing for the spring 2024 semester.

In collaboration with Aerial Ellis, Ed.D., Wells Fargo Endowed Chair and Distinguished Professor, Pough will contribute significantly to the course by delivering four dynamic guest lectures. The goal of the course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of entertainment marketing and promotion through the examination of real-world case studies.

With an illustrious career marked by significant contributions to the success of iconic artists including Jay-Z, Rihanna, Kanye West, Travis Scott, Future, DJ Khaled, and 21 Savage, Pough brings unparalleled expertise and real-world insights to the classroom.

As the former president of Roc Nation Music and executive vice president of Epic Records, a division of Sony Music Entertainment, Pough has an extensive track record of overseeing day-to-day operations and leading promotional and marketing strategies. His achievements include steering Epic Records' urban team to the coveted title of No. 1 Urban Record Label of the Year in 2017.

Prior to his roles at Roc Nation and Epic Records, Pough served as senior vice president of promotion at Universal Music Group’s Island Def Jam. His impressive career also features a seven-year tenure as vice president of promotion at MCA Records and the launch of his career as regional promotions manager for Motown Records.
