Everyone knows Eagles can fly, but now NCCU Eagles can roll.
The North Carolina Central University Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management has recently signed a five-year lease for two 56-passenger motorcoaches intended to transport students, faculty and staff to cultural and athletic events.
According to Kevin Rome, vice chancellor for Student Affairs, they are brand new 2009 Setra buses, leased directly from Daimler Buses North America. Simply named “Eagle One” and “Eagle Two”, each bus comes equipped with satellite television, satellite radio, and wifi Internet access so students can work on laptops and access the Internet while traveling. Other features include video monitors, a DVD player, seat tray tables, and adjustable foot rests to make traveling long distances more enjoyable.
It is much cheaper than flying. “The division of student affairs takes very seriously the stewardship of the student fees and other monies,” says Vickie McNeill, special assistant to the vice chancellor.
So far, feedback has been very positive from the NCCU community. The Eagle One bus is maroon and the Eagle Two is very dark graphite grey. Most noticeable are the large eagle head logos on the sides. Measuring about eight feet tall, they are definitely hard to miss.
So, if you’re riding on the highway, or around town in the Triangle area and you notice a giant eagle staring at you, don’t be alarmed. It’s just NCCU coming to a venue near you.
