North Carolina Central University is pleased to announce that Anita B. Walton has been appointed director of Alumni Relations, effective August 24, 2009. Most recently, Walton has been serving as the homecoming and affinity reunion manager for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she has had a successful 18-year career. There, Walton budgeted and supervised the delivery of over 500 programs, first in Student Affairs and then Alumni Relations.
“I have had a very successful career at UNC-Chapel Hill and I’ve learned a lot,” said Walton, “but North Carolina Central University is about to embark on a very exciting time with the impending Centennial and I wanted to be a part of that.”
At Chapel Hill, Walton has effectively managed a broad range of activities involving students, alumni, and volunteers. She has served on teams recognized by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) in 1999, 2002, 2004, and 2007. Walton also has been the recipient of the ASAP (Association of Student Advancement Programs) District III Outstanding Advisor Award, and currently serves on the District III Board as the Opportunity and Equity Chair.
Walton received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and also earned a Master of Education from North Carolina State University in higher education administration with a concentration in student development.
