Governor Beverly Purdue has appointed Dr. Harvey L. McMurray, chair, Department of Criminal Justice, at North Carolina Central University to the North Carolina Sentencing and Policy Advisory Commission.
Judge W. Erwin Spainhour, Commission chair, states of McMurray, “I am positive that the knowledge and experiences that you have acquired throughout your career will be extremely beneficial to accomplishing the duties required of the Commission.”
Created in 1990, the Commission makes recommendations to the General Assembly for the modification of sentencing laws and policies, and related criminal justice matters.
McMurray states, “Given the fiscal challenges at hand and the need to balance public safety and social justice concerns, I look forward to contributing in any way possible to the work of the Commission and serving the citizens of North Carolina.”
McMurray’s appointment expires June 30, 2011.
