NCCU Collaborates to make Clinical Research “Aware for All”

NCCU is hosting Aware for All the Triangle Saturday, September 12, to raise public awareness about clinical trial participation. The event will begin with a breakfast at 9 a.m. Followed by health screenings for several common health disparities including blood glucose, blood pressure, BMI and stress levels. Resources will also be available to search current clinical trial listings. The opening session will feature bioethicist and author, Harriet Washington and Dr. Robert M. Califf, vice chancellor for clinical research and professor of medicine at Duke University.

Throughout the day, there will be information sessions featuring several prominent members in the medical community speaking on health issues including cancer treatment, cardiovascular disease and bioethical issues such as the parameters of informed consent and the importance of clinical research and participation by minorities in clinical trials. Door prizes will also be given away. Aware for All the Triangle will be at NCCU’s School of Education, 712 Cecil Street, Durham, N.C., beginning at 10 a.m. and will wrap up at 2 p.m.

Aware for All the Triangle is an educational program that is free and open to the public for the purpose of providing education to help people make informed decisions about clinical research participation. Aware for All the Triangle is a collaborative effort between North Carolina Central University, Duke Medicine, The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Project Connect, Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, The North Carolina Translational and Clinical Services Institute, and the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Institute at UNC.
