Hollins Named Interim Director of Bands

 

North Carolina Central University has named Thurman D. Hollins as interim director of bands. Hollins will begin his duties on July 1, 2014.

Known as a highly respected and accomplished musician, educator and conductor Hollins has held appointments in Virginia, North Carolina and Georgia. Most recently, he served as director of bands for Saint Augustine’s University where he built the Superior Sound Marching Band program to national prominence. Prior to joining Saint Augustine’s, Hollins worked as assistant director of bands and, subsequently, director of bands at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte.

He is a graduate of Norfolk State University, where he earned a bachelor’s in music education, and Winthrop University, having received a master’s in music education, Hollins has also completed coursework toward a Ph.D. in music education at Georgia State University.
