Alumnus Gives $50,000 to Establish Endowment in Memory of His Late Son
Published: Monday, October 19, 2009

Robert Lee Dobbs, Class of 1960, recently established the Curtis Lee Dobbs Memorial Endowment Fund to honor his late son, who passed away at the age of eighteen, March 26, 1985. Curtis Dobbs was just a freshman at Hunter College in New York City when tragedy struck.

Dobbs established this endowment in the amount of $50,000 to provide scholarship opportunities for sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are track and field athletes and maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Dobbs was an extraordinary athlete who received numerous awards while he was a student at NCCU. Recognition of his accomplishments came in 1997 when Dobbs was inducted into the Alexander M. Rivera Athletic Hall of Fame, honoring him for his collegiate track career.

He created this endowment in memory of his son, and hopes that it will have an impact on the lives of other youths at this institution.

The North Carolina Central University Foundation is located on the campus in the lower level of the William Jones Building, and can be reached by phone at (919) 530-6151.
