North Carolina Central University announces alumnus Erica Dixon as the director of campus recreation. As director, Dixon will be charged with contributing to the total health and well-being of the members of the university community through a diverse range of recreational and leisure programs and activities on the campus of NCCU.
It may seem like a tall order, but Dixon brings a lot to the table. She has owned a fitness center and has worked for the United States Navy as the first civilian intern to be named program coordinator at a 5,000-member base.
Dixon returned to NCCU as a faculty member where she supervised the wellness center and served as a member of the NCCU Department of Physical Education and Recreation Evaluation Committee. Currently, she teaches classes on fitness, rhythmic aerobics, and advanced aerobics in the Physical Education and Recreation Department.
Dixon says, “It seems as though every time I read, hear or learn anything new, I do so with one question in mind and that is how can I use this information to assist or inspire someone else.”
Having received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from NCCU, she became a Certified Personal Trainer/ Group Fitness Instructor by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America and other nationally recognized organizations. She is also a member of the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association.
