
The North Carolina Central University School of Law is celebrating its 70th Anniversary Alumni Reunion Weekend on August 21-23. Highlights of the weekend celebration include the Willie E. Gary 2009 Legal Eagle Golf Tournament and an Alumni Awards Dinner. Other events include a welcome reception, Turner Law School tour, family picnic and farewell breakfast.
The golf tournament will take place at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, at the Hillandale Golf Course in Durham. This event is in honor of Willie E. Gary, a 1974 graduate and generous supporter of the School of Law.
The gala dinner, followed by the awards program, will take place at 7 p.m. on August 22, at the Doubletree Hotel in Durham. The keynote speaker for this event will be the Honorable Henry M. "Mickey" Michaux, Jr., a 1964 graduate and North Carolina State Representative, District 31. Five alumni will receive the following awards during the program:
The Julian Thomas Pierce Award in recognition of pro bono/legal services for poor and disadvantaged person will be awarded to Dorothy C. Bernholz, class of 1975.
The Clifton E. Johnson Award for outstanding contribution to the legal profession will be awarded to Judge A. Leon Stanback, Jr., class of 1968.
The Floyd B. Mckissick Award for outstanding community service will be awarded to G.K. Butterfield, class of 1974, U.S. House of Representatives.
The Albert L. Turner Award for distinguished service will be awarded to Georgia State Senator Leroy R. Johnson, class of 1957.
The Daniel G. Sampson Award for alumni service will be awarded to Carolyn B. O'Garro Moore, class of 1987.
