WEATHER UPDATE: HURRICANE IRMA, SEPT. 10, 2017, 12 p.m. UPDATE

As you may know, Hurricane Irma has reached the lower Florida Keys as a Category 4 storm with winds of up to 130 m.p.h.

The latest National Weather Service forecast model continues to shift the track of the storm westward, with the Triangle area expected to experience effects of the storm from Monday, Sept. 11 through late Tuesday, Sept. 12. The area is expected to receive wind gusts of 30 to 40 m.p.h., from one to three inches of rain and isolated tornado threats.

As we continue to monitor these weather developments and their potential impact on our area and campus operations, the following tips should prove helpful in your efforts to prepare for the storm.

Make A Plan

  • You may not be with loved ones during a storm. Practice how you’ll stay in touch; texting and social media may work best.
  • Decide on where to go in case of flooding or other emergency situations.

Build An Emergency Kit

  • Build a kit with adequate food and water supplies in the event that the storm reaches our area and causes power outages.
