Career Services Goes to Washington, D.C

HBCU Career Marketplace

In fall 2013, Career Services partnered with the Small Business Alliance to provide an all expense paid trip for 20 students to attend the HBCU Career Marketplace in Washington, D.C.  The HBCU Career Marketplace is a two day career and professional development conference for HBCU students with GPAs of 3.0 and above, and who are juniors and seniors.  With the support of the Centennial Scholars Program and Honors Program, Career Services was able to recruit students that fit this criteria.  Over 12 HBCUs were in attendance at the HBCU Career Marketplace this past fall.

The conference consisted of a debate competition among schools on the national debt ceiling crises, a networking reception, and then a career expo.  Three NCCU students secured interviews on the spot at the career expo. One student reported receiving a job offer in loss prevention at MACYs on 34th Street Herald Square in New York City.

Career Services is looking forward to attending the next HBCU Career Markeplace Conferenc in November 2014. We look forward to transporting more students and continuing to represent NCCU well.
