Undergraduate Admissions FAQs

The requirements for Spring 2025 admission to NCCU include the following:

• High school GPA: A minimum weighted GPA of 2.5; or
• Standardized test scores: Students are not required to submit a standardized test score.
  • If a student does not meet the minimum high school GPA requirement, they may gain admission eligibility with a composite ACT score of 19 or a combined SAT (mathematics and evidence-based reading and writing) of 1010.
• All students must satisfy the University of North Carolina (UNC) minimum admissions requirements to be eligible for admission.
• A complete record from an accredited secondary or preparatory school, with graduation based on UNC minimum undergraduate course requirements:
  • In English, four-course units emphasize grammar, composition and literature.
  • In mathematics, four-course units including Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry and fourth math higher than Algebra II; or Algebra I, Algebra II and two-course units higher than Algebra II (Advanced Functions and Modeling, Discrete Mathematics, Pre-Calculus, Integrated Mathematics IV, AP Statistics, Essential for College Math, AP Calculus A/B or AP Calculus B/C).
  • In science, three-course units, including at least one lab science. 
  • In social studies, two-course units, including at least one in U.S. history.
  • Two additional academic courses from English, mathematics, science, social studies, world languages, or computer science. (Note: these courses should be selected in alignment with a student’s academic and career objectives. Completion of two sequential world language courses is recommended.)

The requirements for admission to NCCU include the following:

• Satisfactory 2.5 weighted grade point average. 
• Standardized test scores: Students with a weighted high school GPA greater than or equal to 2.50 and less than 2.80 are required to submit a standardized test score (ACT or SAT).
• All students must satisfy the University of North Carolina (UNC) minimum admissions requirements to be eligible for admission.
• A complete record from an accredited secondary or preparatory school, with graduation based on UNC minimum undergraduate course requirements:
  • In English, four-course units emphasize grammar, composition and literature.
  • In mathematics, four-course units including Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry and fourth math higher than Algebra II; or Algebra I, Algebra II and two-course units higher than Algebra II (Advanced Functions and Modeling, Discrete Mathematics, Pre-Calculus, Integrated Mathematics IV, AP Statistics, Essential for College Math, AP Calculus A/B or AP Calculus B/C).

Please have the testing agency submit your scores directly to our office. The College Board Code for NCCU is 5495, and the ACT code is 3132.

The application fee is $50 USD (non-refundable).  When you complete your application online, you can submit your payment electronically with a debit or credit card.  

Please contact Undergraduate Admissions if payment needs to be made by cash, check, or money order.

We do accept SAT/Collegeboard fee waivers for freshman applications. You can complete an application online and choose "mail" as your fee payment option. Waivers should be mailed to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions:

You must accept the offer of admission. Once you log into the Eagle Promise Portal to accept the offer, you will begin to receive updates via email. Please read all of the emails you receive from the University.

North Carolina Central University has an online system to check your application status.

Check Your Status (Undergraduates)

You can monitor and check the status of your application by logging into your Eagle Promise portal anytime, day or night.

You may submit your transcript electronically via CFNC for NC schools, via mail, or via other electronic methods. We strongly encourage documents to be sent electronically.

To change or defer their enrollment term, students must complete a new application for their new desired term. Please note that an additional application fee may be required to process your application.

Consecutive Term Change
Students who change their term to the next upcoming semester will not be required to pay an additional fee with the new application. Example: A consecutive term change qualifies as moving from Fall to Spring or Spring to Summer.

Non-Consecutive Term Change
Students who change their term non-consecutively by skipping over the upcoming semester will be required to pay an additional $50 fee with the new application. Example: A non-consecutive term change qualifies as moving from Fall to Summer or Spring to Fall.
