Applying to Graduate School at NCCU

All graduate admission procedures and requirements for graduate programs at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) were developed to maintain the integrity of the UNC educational system and NCCU. These requirements and procedures were established to meet standards as dictated by the University administration and accreditation criteria. Currently, all applications for graduate admission to programs in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (CBSS), School of Business, and School of Library and Information Sciences (SLIS) are processed by the School of Graduate Studies.  Graduate programs in education are being temporarily processed in the School of Education and for law school admissions, see the School of Law website.

Applicant's must have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 or a 3.00 in the last sixty (60) credit hours of study at the undergraduate level.  Please note that this is a general GPA requirement for graduate admissions and that the degree program you wish to apply to may require a different minimum GPA.  Please see admission requirements for additional information.

Those applying to graduate programs in education should mail their supporting documents to the School of Education; those applying to the law program should see the School of Law website; and those applying to a CAS, CBSS or SLIS graduate program should mail their supporting documents to the School of Graduate Studies.  Examples of supporting documents include official copies of transcripts, TOEFL scores (if applicable), GRE and GMAT scores, etc.

Ready to Apply!

All individuals who would like to apply to any NCCU graduate program, except the law program, must apply using the online graduate admission application.  To start your online graduate admission application, click this link:  NCCU's Online Graduate & Doctoral Admission Application.

Before you start the application, you will be required to create an AY (ApplyYourself) account by selecting the 'create account' button.  Once you select 'create account', your PIN will be automatically generated and you will be required to create a password for your account.  It is very important that you remember your PIN and password for the following reasons:

  • Allows you to log back into your application at any time prior to and after submitting the application
  • Allows you to log back into your application to view the decision (acceptance or denial of your application for admission to the program to which you applied).  If offered admission, you will need to accept or reject the offer here as well.
  • Prevents you from having to go through the process of resetting your PIN and/or password

If you ever forget your PIN and/or password for an application that you have created and/or submitted, it is very important that you not create a new account.  Creating another account will create a second application in the system for you.  This action will increase the chances of your supporting documents possibly being uploaded and attached to the incorrect application, which may cause both to be considered incomplete.  To prevent this from happening to you, simply select the Forgot your PIN or Password? link in the User Login section of the homepage of the online graduate application, which is the same page where you initially created your account.

Once you have created your account, please keep the following in mind:

  • To complete the online graduate application, simply type your answers in the corresponding fields or select your answers from the popup lists (where applicable).
  • After you complete a screen, click the NEXT button at the bottom or on one of the sections listed on the left column to move to a different screen.
  • Before you are allowed to proceed to the next screen, your data on the current screen will be reviewed for errors or omissions. If errors or omissions are found, you will be returned to the screen to correct or input your answer(s).  Your data will be saved and you will proceed to the next screen.
  • The application system will allow you to skip to another screen without your new data being saved. Be aware that if you use the Skip & Jump function on the left column, data on the current screen will not be saved and will have to be re-entered prior to submittal.
  • Once you have completed the application, click the 'SUBMIT' button located on the left column to submit the application.  You will be prompted to pay your application fee at this time.
