Weather Update: Hurricane Dorian, Sept. 5, 2019:

Hurricane Dorian continues to make its way towards the North Carolina coast. The latest National Weather Service forecast remains unchanged for Durham, with our area expecting to experience its effects (moderate rain, wind gusts and localized flooding) beginning this afternoon, Thursday, Sept. 5, until tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 6.

NCCU is operating under normal conditions and class schedules. However, the James E. Shepard Library will close early this evening at 10 p.m.

Should the forecast for our area change or weather conditions worsen, we will communicate all campus operations updates via the Rave system (email, text and phone call), weather telephone hotline (919-530-7220), social media (FacebookTwitter and Instagram) and on the NCCU website.

Also, please listen for the NCCU Emergency Alert Warning System Sirens in the event they are activated. If you live in a residence hall, be sure to check with your Residential Life Coordinators for additional information in the event of a weather watch or a warning. Additionally, please use caution and be aware of local conditions if traveling.

NCCU expects to operate under normal conditions and class schedules. However, as the potential impact becomes clearer, any updates to campus operations will be shared via the Rave system (email, text and phone call), weather telephone hotline (919-530-7220), social media (FacebookTwitter and Instagram) and on the NCCU website.

Weather Update: Hurricane Dorian, Sept. 3, 2019:

North Carolina Central University continues to monitor the National Weather Service’s tracking of Hurricane Dorian as it makes its way to south Florida. The latest forecast shifts the track of the storm to the northeastern part of N.C. and the Triangle area will likely see effects of the storm beginning Wednesday evening, Sept. 4 until Friday, Sept. 6, although the exact impact remains unknown due to track uncertainties. The area may experience heavy rain, flooding, downed limbs and strong wind gusts.

We continue to urge everyone to stay alert to weather developments, create a safe shelter plan and build an emergency kit with adequate food and water supplies in the event that the storm reaches our area and causes power outages or other disruptions at some point next week.

At NCCU, there is no higher priority than the safety of our University community. As we continue to monitor the National Weather Service forecast, please expect more communication as the potential impact becomes clearer via notification from the Rave system (email, text and phone call), weather telephone hotline (919-530-7220), social media (FacebookTwitter and Instagram) and on the NCCU website.

In addition, please listen for the NCCU Emergency Alert Warning System Sirens in the event they are activated. If you live in a residence hall, be sure to check with your Residential Life Coordinators for additional information in the event of a watch or a warning.
