ADVERSE WEATHER UPDATE - JAN. 22, 2022, 11:46 a.m.

North Carolina Central University will return to its normal operating schedule at 12 p.m., today Jan. 22. Please see information below regarding the James E. Shepard Library, Dining Services and Division of Student Affairs.

Should campus operations change, we will communicate all updates via the Rave system (email, text and phone call), weather telephone hotline (919-530-7220), social media (FacebookTwitterInstagram) and on the NCCU website.

CAMPUS OPERATIONS

SATURDAY, JAN. 22

  • James E Shepard Library: The Shepard Library building will be closed. Should you have questions for a librarian between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., you can access the chat feature at http://shepard.libanswers.nccu.edu/, email [email protected], text (919) 799-2182, and send a message using the Twitter handle  or message a library staff member on Facebook. Access Services can be reached at (919) 530-6426 and Research and Instruction can be contacted at (919) 530-6473. The Shepard Library website is https://www.nccu.edu/library.
  • Business and Auxiliary Services: The W.G. Pearson Dining Hall will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for brunch and 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for dinner. All other retail locations will open at 1 p.m. Should schedules shift for retail locations, an additional update will be provided by Business and Auxiliary Services.
  • Division of Student Affairs
    • A.E. Student Union: Will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
    • New Student Center: Will be closed.
    • Campus Recreation: Will be open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

ADVERSE WEATHER UPDATE - JAN. 21, 2022, 9:36 p.m. 

Durham County continues to be under a winter weather advisory, with snowfall and freezing rain anticipated throughout the weekend.

North Carolina Central University will continue its Condition 1 Operation status (Reduced Operations) of the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy through Saturday, Jan. 22, 12 p.m. 

Under Condition 1:

The University remains open, but certain non-mandatory operations may be reduced due to more limited staffing. Mandatory employees must report to or remain at work. All other employees have the option to report late, leave early, or not work at all; however, the employee is responsible for informing his/her supervisory chain in a timely manner of all such decisions. Employees must code available leave for any work time missed during a Condition 1, unless the supervisor authorized off site work arrangements…”

Employees not working during a Condition 1 declaration are required to use personal leave.  Adverse weather leave must be reconciled (made-up) within 90 days.

The National Weather Service is forecasting adverse weather for Durham County, which includes a significant winter storm beginning this evening, Thursday, Jan. 20. Snowfall and freezing rain are anticipated. 

North Carolina Central University will operate under Condition 1 (Reduced Operations) of the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy today, Jan. 20, beginning at 10 p.m. through Saturday, Jan. 22, 10 a.m.  

All classes on Friday, Jan. 21, will be held virtually.

Under Condition 1:
