Latasha Hicks Becton
Biography
Dr. Latasha Y. Hicks Becton is an assistant professor of counselor education at North Carolina Central University. Prior to becoming a counselor educator, Dr. Becton gained experience working with mandated/legal system-involved populations in an abstinence-based program, in an opioid maintenance treatment program, and provided counseling for university students. She continues her clinical work in private practice as well as at an alcohol and drug addiction treatment facility in Greensboro, NC.
Dr. Becton was honored as 2016 Doctoral Fellow by the National Board for Certified Counselor’s Foundation Minority Fellowship Program and as a 2019 Emerging Leader by the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. She is an active member of the American Counseling Association and several divisions, including the International Association of Addictions and Offender Counselors.
Dr. Becton’s professional and research interests include the following:
- Clinical supervision
- Counseling ethics and professional standards
- Assessment and treatment of alcohol and other drug use in college students
- Alcohol and other drug use in student and professional athletes
- Mentorship in counselor education
- Diversity, equity, and inclusion in counselor education
