Research Interests

My research sits on the axis of microbe and host immune interactions that lead to inflammation, specifically in the lung.

We have developed a mouse model to study how binge alcohol consumption can lead to more severe lung disease when challenge by a microbial pathogen. Interestingly, the molecular interactions mirror cannabinoid signaling, which suggests that cannabinoids (THC) may have similar effects.

We also study strategies that Yersinia pestis has developed to evade host immune detection, as a means to become so pathogenic.
