Durham Attractions

More than 9 million people visit Durham each year to enjoy a wealth of things to see and do, including art places, entertainment, history, nature and science places, and sports.  The city and region offer great entertainment options for a diverse crowd.  Durham has a strong performing arts scene and offers several performance venues including the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC), dozens of smaller community spaces and outdoor plazas.

There are also several historical sites visitors can enjoy including The American Tobacco Historic district, Bennett Place State Historic Site, Black Wall Street, Duke University Chapel and the St. Joseph’s Historic Foundation at the Hayti Heritage Center just to name a few.

Durham boasts more than 60 parks, acres of verdant forests, several waterways, as well as several indoor activity centers, spas, and other recreation options.  Durham is also the City of Medicine, making the city a world-renowned medical community and is a hub of the Research Triangle Park. Additional nature and scientific activities include biking, running, hiking, fishing, visiting the public gardens, the Museum of Life and Science, the North Carolina Agricultural Research Center or North Carolina Biotechnology Center. 

In addition, there are movie theaters, performance halls, night spots, clubs and live music.
