In August 2009, the UNC Board of Governors approved the implementation of a “hard waiver” student health insurance plan on all 16 four-year campuses starting this fall. The term “hard waiver” means any student enrolled in a degree-seeking program and registered for six or more credit hours must either enroll in the system-wide plan or show evidence of an existing “creditable coverage” health insurance policy.

The system-wide plan provides a common set of base benefits with several options for campus selected plan enhancements.  The UNC system-wide plan has a robust set of benefits at an affordable premium. The plan’s coverage can be expanded by a student to include a spouse/domestic partner and/or children. The coverage is from Aug. 1 to July 31 and is billed by semesters (defined as Aug. 1 – Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 – July 31).

If you are taking less than 6 credit hours you have not been charged for the student insurance fee. The student insurance portal for Pearce and Pearce is not open for Summer 2012 waivers

You can use the Pearce and Pearce Insurance portal to process your Fall 2012 waiver beginning in June 2012.
