SDS - For Faculty and Staff

We appreciate all of our campus and community partners, especially our faculty and staff. The information listed below is designed to assist you when working with the SDS Office and with students who are registered with our office or may need accommodations.

Faculty Testing Procedures
When a student requests testing accommodations, on occasion the accommodations can be provided within the department. For example, if you, as the professor or instructor, are able to provide testing in another room for extended time, or for a lower-distraction setting, and if it is agreeable to the student, this is fine.

If this cannot be provided and the student requests to take their test in the SDS office, then we ask students to speak with faculty first to inform the instructor they are requesting testing accommodations for an upcoming test and get the intended test date approved by you. The student must fill out a Testing Modifications Form, by email submission or in the SDS office, three days in advance of the intended test date. There is also a Testing Instructions Sheet, with more details about modified testing and a place for instructors to include any special instructions, along with the test.

Your part as faculty is to:

  1. Discuss and approve the student’s intended test date for testing in the SDS Office.
  2. Email, fax, or hand-deliver the test, along with the Testing Instructions Sheet, and your office location for return delivery to Ms. Cox, bcox@nccu.edu, (Student Services Building, office G-22) preferably 24-48 hours before the student’s intended test date.

Student Disability Services
Students with disabilities (e.g., physical, learning, psychological, chronic medical, etc.) who would like to request accommodations and services are required to register with the Office of Student Disability Services in suite G-20 in the Student Services Building. Please contact Kesha Lee, Director at 919-530-6325 or email studentdisabilityservices@nccu.edu. If you are already registered in the office, you will need to return to the office each semester (during the first 2 weeks, preferably) to review your information and receive updated accommodations.
