Student Insurance Facts

KNOW THE FACTS ABOUT WAIVING YOUR STUDENT INSURANCE:

Q: Do I have to show proof of other comparable medical insurance coverage in order to be eligible for a student insurance waiver?

A: Yes

Q: If I waive my student insurance can I still receive care at the Student Health Center and will my claim (charges) be filed to my insurance company?

A: Yes, you can still receive care at the Student Health Center if you waive your student insurance?

No, we will not file your charges (claim) incurred at the Student Health Clinic to your insurance company. All charges incurred at Student Health are your responsibility and are charged to your student account. You will be given an encounter form to use for the purposes of filing to your own insurance company.

Q: How do I know if my insurance company will accept a claim submitted by me?

A: You will need to check with your insurance company to make sure you can file your own claim. Medicaid and Medicare do not accept claims submitted by the patient (student). Therefore, if you waive your student insurance using Medicaid or Medicare you will be responsible for all charges incurred in Student Health. Your other option is to use a facility outside of Student Health for your medical care.

Q: Will I have to pay charges billed to my account before I am eligible to register for the next semester or before I graduate?

A: Yes
