How To Join?

Qualifications for Membership Intake

All NCCU students must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for membership in a fraternity or sorority:

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Classified as a registered full-time student at North Carolina Central University 
    *Graduating seniors who need less than 15 credit hours to graduate must be registered for a minimum of 12 credit hours.
  2. A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.7 or better.
  3. Have successfully earned a minimum of thirty (30) credit hours and be at the status of an sophomore.
  4. Transfer students must have completed one (1) semester and fifteen (15) credits at NCCU and must have the appropriate GPA as stated in #2
  5. Be in good standing with the university as it relates to disciplinary matters:
    *Not currently completing/under any judicial sanctions, suspensions or expulsions by the University.
  6. Must have been enrolled as a full-time student at the university the semester immediately preceding your application.
  7.  Attend the mandatory Membership Intake Orientation session(s) and training(s) sponsored by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life.
  8. Meet all additional requirements outlined by the specific fraternity or sorority organization you desire to join.

*Summer school hours will only apply to your accumulated overall average not as a substitute for a full semester in the University.

Other Criteria of Requirements:

  2. University clearance does not automatically clear you to become fully eligible for membership in a fraternity or sorority organization; additional requirements include membership qualifications outlined by the specific organization.
  3. The Fraternity/Sorority Life Coordinator will establish the Membership Intake Period of North Carolina Central University following approval by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
  4. The Membership Intake Period is only during the Spring semester of each academic year.
  5. All students that are interested in joining an affiliated fraternity or sorority are required to attend each session(s) and training(s) to be eligible to participate in the Fraternity and Sorority for the academic year.
    *Mandatory university session(s) and training(s), sponsored by the Office of Fraternity and
      Sorority Life will occur:
         i. Fraternity and Sorority Life Informational Meeting
        ii. Membership Intake Orientation
  6.  Fraternities and sororities on suspension or probation are not eligible to conduct membership intake activities.
  7. All interested students, organization members and graduate advisors participating in any membership intake activities are required to sign a form acknowledging they have received and understand NCCU Membership Intake Process, University Hazing Policy and State of North Carolina Laws. 

*Compliance with the above stated qualifications and approval by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life does not guarantee selection for membership into a fraternity or sorority organization.

Membership Intake Orientation

The Membership Intake Orientation (MIO) is designed for students interested in joining an officially recognized Fraternity or Sorority on the campus of North Carolina Central University. This workshop is intended to educate prospective members on University rules, regulations, and procedures regarding membership intake as well as state and federal laws. Prospective members will also gain a wealth of knowledge about Fraternity and Sorority Life at NCCU, community engagement, signs and effects of hazing, and deepen their knowledge on their rights and responsibilities as a student.

Cost of the Session

MIO Pre-registration: August 21 - September 8, 2017
*Must register and pay $25.00 in advance (before attending the course) at the A. E. Student Union, Suite 125.

MIO #1 August 22, 2017 3:00-7:00pm
MIO #2 August 27, 2017 9:00am-1:00pm
MIO #3 September 6, 2017 3:00-7:00pm
MIO #4 September 7, 2017 3:00-7:00pm

*All sessions will be held in the AE Student Union • Room 146. The prospective member only has to attend one session.

MIO Completion  

After completing the Membership Intake Orientation class, each candidate will receive a certificate of completion that will be honored for two consecutive years.
