Mission

The mission of the North Carolina Health Careers Access Program and the Health Professions Career Center at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) is to promote academic excellence and scholarships; sponsor enrichment activities; and provide outreach programs, professional and developmental services, counseling, summer clinical experiences and overall student academic support to NCCU undergraduate and graduate students who seek admission to graduate and professional medical, dental and health-related education programs upon completing the required undergraduate degree at NCCU.

Health Professions Career Center Programs

Clinical Health Program (CHSP)

The Clinical Health Summer Program (CHSP) is a seven-week experiential learning opportunity held each year for underrepresented minority and disadvantaged students accepted to a health science or health-related field at North Carolina Central University (NCCU).

Health Careers Clinical Shadowing Program (HCCSP)

The North Carolina Central University Health Careers Clinical Shadowing Program (HCCSP) gives qualified students interested in attending professional schools of medicine and health professions an opportunity to observe a practicing health or medical professional face-to-face or virtually.

Inspirational Soaring Eagle Alumni Lecture Series

North Carolina Central University alumni (NCCU) who are currently in a professional school or graduates of professional schools are invited to speak with students about the undergraduate or graduate experiences that led them to enroll in their respective career programs.

Health Professions Career Center Recruitment and Information

The staff in the Health Professions Career Center invite recruiters from various colleges and universities to present their graduate and professional programs to students who are interested in pursuing another degree after receiving an undergraduate degree from North Carolina Central University (NCCU).

3 + 4 Educational Program Agreements

These programs, in partnership with other universities, are designed to provide an early decompressed transition into the medical school curriculum.

A.T. Still University Program Agreements

These programs, in partnership with A.T. Still University, are designed to provide preferred applicant status to qualified North Carolina Central University applicants.

The Health Professions Career Center provided many opportunities to network with medical schools and connections to internships, including a medical internship abroad. These experiences along with the unwavering support I received from the Health Professions Career Center have truly prepared me to be a competitive medical school candidate and a promising future physician.
