Housing and Dining

Resident Assistants (RAs) are student staff who live with the residents on the floor. They are selected on the basis of their skills, interests, and activities. Resident assistants get to know the students on their floor, familiarize the students with Residential Life and university policies, and serve as a liaison between them and the Office of Residential Life. Each RA is trained to assist and advise students concerning academic and personal issues and to refer them to the appropriate university offices (e.g. Counseling Center, Academic Affairs, or the Office of the Registrar) as needs arise. RAs also plan and present social, recreational, and educational/cultural programs to enable residents to gain the most from their experience at NCCU.

Assistant Community Directors (ACDs) are live-in graduate students who are responsible for assisting the resident community director with the overall operation of the assigned residence hall by providing counseling to individuals or groups of students, and implementing programs in the hall.

Community Directors (CDs) are fulltime, live-in staff or graduate students who are responsible for the general supervision and management of the assigned residence hall. They provide advisory and personal/disciplinary counseling of individuals or groups of students, and carry out student programs.

Assistant Directors (ADs) manage the community-learning environment for the two campus regions, NCCU South, and North. They supervise of all student personnel, budget, facilities, and operational aspects of the campus region.

Aligned with the higher educational co-curricular concept and leading the way amongst our peer institutions, access to continuing and new living learning residential communities are now available. The 2011-12 Living Learning Community program will host six dynamic and innovative communities:

• Project Y.O.U. - Young, Original and Unique
• Students Transforming Society: Social Justice
• Teaching Fellows
• U.H.P. - University Honors Program (including Chancellor Scholars who are UHP members)
• E.W.V. - Eagle Women's Village
