LeaderShape 2010

The LeaderShape Institute at North Carolina Central University is open to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors who will graduate in May 2011. It will be held May 18-23, 2010 at Laurel Ridge Conference and Retreat Center in Laurel Springs, North Carolina.

North Carolina Central University is the first and only HBCU (Historically Black College and University) to host a campus-based LeaderShape Institute. Since its inception in 1986, the LeaderShape Institute has developed a national reputation as one of the premier leadership development programs for young adults. More than 20,000 young people from more than 500 different colleges, universities, corporations, and organizations across America have graduated from the program.

What is Leadershape? LeaderShape is an intensive six-day experience in which students are exposed to an assortment of experiential learning activities, simulations and leadership development opportunities. Students are “charged” with creating a vision to improve and change their respective university, campus environment and/or the world. Highlights of the program included:
DAY 1- Building Community

Leadership involves living in a state of possibility, making a commitment to a vision, developing relationships to move the vision into action, and sustaining a high level of integrity. 

Curriculum
Our curriculum, refined by almost two decades of repetition and reviewed by hundreds of facilitators, is split into different themes for each of the six days of a session. The themes are listed below.

Internal and external reviews of The LeaderShape Institute reflects LeaderShape’s commitment to excellence.
The LeaderShape Institute was named an “exemplary program” by members of an evaluation team at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Additional results of longitudinal research conducted by the foundation revealed that LeaderShape is successful at increasing the ability of college leaders to create organizational visions and has increased general transformational leadership skills in these leaders.
