Leadership Training for Department Chairs

The OFPD is committed to supporting Department Chairs in their role as unit and academic leaders in their service to the university and its mission. Leadership training for Department Chairs is needed to help them navigate the pressures of tightened budgets, increased accountability measures, changing modes of instructional delivery, growth in campus diversity, student complaints, and increased issues pertaining to employment law within institutions of higher education. Workshops and seminars will focus on the basics of human and financial resource management, administrative policies and procedures, mentoring and evaluation, curriculum design and development, departmental innovation and advancement, and contribution to the larger mission of the university. Participants can expect to be engaged in case study analyses, roundtable discussions, role play and problem-solving activities, leadership simulations, book talks, and leadership skills development.
