Message from the Chancellor: Dr. John C. Clamp

John C. Clamp, Ph.D., NCCU Biological and Biomedical Sciences professor

Dear NCCU Community,

It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of Biological and Biomedical Sciences Professor John C. Clamp, Ph.D., 68, who died on Feb. 6, 2018, following a short illness.

Dr. Clamp was born in Nuremberg, Germany, and grew up in Fayetteville, N.C. He came to work at NCCU in 1984 after earning his Ph.D. from North Carolina State University. Dr. Clamp graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Methodist University and a master’s from N.C. State. He was widely admired for his scholarship in the field of evolutionary biology and was involved in a number of international collaborations. Outside of his work at NCCU, he loved the outdoors, specifically gardening and bird watching.

I trust the university community will join me in offering condolences to his wife, Susan, stepchildren, Laura Lea Veal and John Bryant Bowden, and granddaughter, Emily Lea Aronson.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Clamp’s family and all of his colleagues and friends during this difficult time. Dr. Clamp’s full obituary can be viewed here: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/heraldsun/obituary.aspx?pid=188112058.

In Truth and Service,

Johnson O. Akinleye, Ph.D.
