NCCU Winter Weather Advisory Update (1/18, 6:30 P.M.)

 

NCCU To Restore Full Operations at 9 a.m., Friday, Jan. 19; Continue Under Condition 2 Until 9 a.m. (UPDATED JAN. 18, 2018, 6:30 P.M.)

North Carolina Central University will restore full operations beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 19, and will operate under Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) of the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy until 9 a.m. Classes will begin at 9 a.m.

When traveling on campus, please continue to use extreme caution on all roadways and walkways. Be aware that heavy snow and ice may unexpectedly fall from the top and edges of buildings as temperatures continue to rise throughout the next 24-48 hours. Open parking will be available on campus tomorrow, Jan. 19.

James E. Shepard Memorial Library will open at 10 a.m. on Jan. 19.

NCCU Cancels Classes for Thursday, Jan. 18; Continue Under Condition 2 Until 6 p.m. on Jan. 18 (Updated: Jan. 17, 2018, 6:10 P.M.)

North Carolina Central University will continue to operate under Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) of the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, through 6 p.m. All classes (daytime and evening) are canceled. Conditions will be reevaluated on tomorrow and another update will be provided.

According to the policy, under Condition 2: “The University remains open on a very limited basis, but has formally suspended all but mandatory operations due to minimal staffing levels. Employees designated or temporarily assigned as mandatory must report to work as directed; all other employees may not report to work or must leave the workplace when this status takes effect.”

James E. Shepard Memorial Library will open at 12 p.m. and close at 5 p.m. on Jan. 18.

Eagle Shuttle Service

Eagle Shuttle Service is suspended for Jan. 18, however conditions will be assessed throughout the day to determine if service can safely operate later in the day. Please check nccumobile.etaspot.net from your mobile device or nccupublic.etaspot.net from your computer for shuttle updates. Addition communication will be sent regarding any changes.

NCCU WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY UPDATE (JAN. 17, 2:10 P.M.) 

 

A Winter Weather Advisory continues to be in effect for Durham County until 7 p.m. today, Jan. 17, with snowfall totals estimated around 8 inches. 

 

North Carolina Central University continues to operate under Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) of the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy today until further notice. Both day and evening classes are cancelled.

 

Following are university operation updates for today, Jan. 17:

 

JAMES E. SHEPARD MEMORIAL LIBRARY

James E. Shepard Memorial Library will close at 2 p.m.

 

STUDENT AFFAIRS

The A.E. Student Union is closed today. Campus Recreation remains open until 5 p.m.   

 

BUSINESS AND AUXILIARY SERVICES (DINING SERVICES AND UNIVERSITY BOOKSTORE)

The W.G. Pearson Dining Hall is open until 2:30 p.m. for brunch. Dinner will be served from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. All food service retail locations, including Faculty and Staff Dining, are closed.

 

The University Bookstore, Eagle Card Office and Central Graphics Print Shop are closed; the Mail Center is currently open.

 

EAGLE SHUTTLE SERVICE

Eagle Escort and campus shuttles will operate until 7 p.m. The After Dark shuttle is not in operation today. Please be sure to check nccumobile.etaspot.net from your mobile device or nccupublic.etaspot.net from your computer for shuttle updates.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory that remains in effect for Durham County until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has also declared a state of emergency ahead of the winter storm.

North Carolina Central University will operate under Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) of the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy beginning 6 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 17. Both day and evening classes are cancelled.

According to the policy, under Condition 2: “The University remains open on a very limited basis, but has formally suspended all but mandatory operations due to minimal staffing levels. Faculty and staff should reference the correspondence distributed by the Department of Human Resources on Jan. 16 regarding the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy.

The A.E. Student Union will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 17. Lounge spaces will be accessible to the campus community.  Campus Recreation will also be open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

James E. Shepard Memorial Library will close at 2 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 17, and reopen at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 17. The library will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

If you are required to drive, please take the time to clean all snow and ice from your windshield and windows for visibility as well as the top areas of the vehicle to prevent ice from striking other vehicles.
