Dear NCCU Community:

I want to update you on an incident that occurred yesterday.

Late Monday evening, the Durham Police Department was conducting a criminal investigation in the City of Durham. It was learned that the suspect fled and was in the vicinity of the North Carolina Central University (NCCU) campus. NCCU Police, along with Durham Police, responded at approximately 10:15 p.m. To ensure the safety of the university community, a lockdown was immediately issued for the campus and surrounding area. The lockdown was lifted at 1:09 a.m. As a result of the incident, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is now managing the investigation.

All activities and classes in the School of Education building will be temporarily relocated on Tuesday. Additional communication will be forthcoming.

NCCU Counseling Services will be available. A Town Hall Meeting will be held.  I applaud the NCCU Police for their responsiveness and vigilance in keeping our campus safe. NCCU is committed to supporting our community during this time.

In Truth and Service,

Dr. Debra Saunders-White

Chancellor
