Michael Johnston

Story by: Brian Byrd, NCCU Office of Communications and Marketing Intern

Eagles continue to showcase their leadership in the law field. Michael Johnston, L’92, has been named partner for Taylor English Duma LLP’s Intellectual Property Practice Group.

Johnston has over 25 years of experience providing counsel for intellectual property matters including patent procurement, patentability, validity opinions and litigation among others.

Prior to joining Taylor English Duma, Johnson served as an intellectual property attorney at Moore & Van Allen PLLC, a law firm based in Morrisville, N.C.

Johnston earned a juris doctor degree from NCCU School of Law in 1992. He also earned a master’s in environmental engineering and a bachelor’s in chemical engineering from the University of Notre Dame.

The Rochester, N.Y., native says his experience at NCCU was motivating.

“The School of Law’s evening program was demanding but also intellectually challenging which was the foundation to my successful career,” Johnston adds.

Johnston is an active member of several organizations including: The American Intellectual Property Law Association; The American Bar Association’s Section of Intellectual Property Law; and the North Carolina Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Law Section and the Carolina Patent, among others.

“Have a clear vision of your future and the path you will need to follow, where it leads will help sustain you,” he advises future intellectual property attorneys.
