Cornelius Wooten Named New Vice Chancellor

Dr. Cornelius Wooten

Cornelius Wooten, Ph.D., has been selected as vice chancellor of Administration and Finance for North Carolina Central University (NCCU) following a national search. Dr. Wooten will begin at NCCU on December 3, 2018.

Dr. Wooten will serve on Chancellor Johnson O. Akinleye’s Executive Leadership Team, providing oversight and management for the university’s administrative and financial operations. These duties will include assessing the strategic deployment of resources and budgetary allocations and transactions, as well as creation of financial models to aid in university planning and decision-making.

Dr. Wooten will supervise all of NCCU’s facilities and maintenance operations and the budgetary and accounting activities, including the Purchasing and Central Receiving departments, the Environmental and Health and Safety offices, and Business and Auxiliary Services. Additionally, Dr. Wooten will be a key contributor to strategic initiatives and development of university policies.

Dr. Wooten currently serves as vice president for Administration and Finance at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), a position he has held since 2008. At IUP, Dr. Wooten serves as the chief financial, operating, business and administrative officer to the university and collaborates with the President’s Cabinet, Council of Trustees, university affiliates and government officials. He is responsible for leading the division in financial planning and budgeting, financial services, risk management, business and auxiliary services and facilities management, among other areas.

At IUP, he managed a budget of $300 million and had oversight for the Residential Revival project that led to $245 million in new residence hall construction completed in 2010, as well as other capital projects totaling more than $200 million. Previously, Dr. Wooten served as vice president for administrative affairs at the University of West Florida, vice president for Administration and Finance at the University of Central Oklahoma, vice president for Administrative Services at Western Illinois University and vice president for Business and Finance at Lincoln University in Missouri. He also worked at Alabama State University, Santa Fe Community College and Fayetteville State University. Dr. Wooten also held faculty positions as an assistant and associate professor of business. He is active in a number of civic organizations.

Dr. Wooten earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education from Florida State University, a Master of Business Administration from Clark Atlanta University, and a Bachelor of Science in accounting and business administration from Savannah State College.
