$350,000 for a Summer Youth Academy
Published: Friday, June 13, 2014

Institutional Advancement and the NCCU School of Business is pleased and grateful that the Executive Leadership Foundation (“ELF”) agreed to grant a request for $350,000 to support program development and scholarships for the Summer Youth Business & Entrepreneurship Academy.

In this academy, NCCU professors and local business leaders offer classes to high-achieving high school students in the subjects of marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, leadership and ethics.  The students visit successful local companies and organizations as they research and develop business plans to present in a juried competition.

This generous grant of $350,000 will help ensure that the program reaches full capacity by its third year and will cover the full cost of attendance for 280 students: 40 students in 2014 and 120 students per year in 2015 and 2016.  The ELF award will provide a significant base of support to establish the academy at the highest-level of quality and sustainability.

“This generous gift from the Executive Leadership Foundation will enable NCCU to invest in training for the next generation of business leaders, entrepreneurs and scholars,” said Dr. Debra Saunders-White, NCCU chancellor. “We are thankful to the ELF for supporting our efforts to build a pipeline of skilled individuals for the workforce in North Carolina and our nation.”
