NCCU Alumna Named Teacher of the Year

Kirtina Jones

NCCU alumna Kirtina Jones has been named the Durham Public Schools’ 2018 Teacher of the Year. Jones currently serves as a second-grade teacher at R.N. Harris Elementary School in Durham, N.C.

The thirteen-year teaching veteran received an $1,000 award and will go on to compete in regional level of the state’s Teacher of the Year program.

During her time at NCCU she was a member of NCCU School of Education’s first cohort of the Rod Edmonds Teaching Scholars which supports students who seeking to teach in high-needs areas after graduation.

She obtained a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and master’s degree in and educational technology from NCCU.
