Cuban Society of Psychology President to Visit NCCU

Alexis Lorenzo Ruiz, Ph.D.

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) will welcome Alexis Lorenzo Ruiz, Ph.D. to speak on the state of psychology, counseling and social work in Cuba on Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. in the H.M. Michaux Jr. School of Education Auditorium.

Ruiz is an accomplished psychologist who serves as president of the Cuban Society of Psychology and is a professor at the University of Havana in Cuba. He was recently awarded the 2017 American Psychological Association (APA) presidential citation at the annual meeting of the APA for his work integrating psychological and medical care in the treatment of children with cancer.

Ruiz began his work integrating psychological and medical care. His innovative methodology has been groundbreaking in Cuba and throughout Latin America. His leadership and recent work organizing the seventh intercontinental Convention of Psychology helped to unite and enhance the Latin American psychology community.

Ruiz earned degrees from Universidad de Rostov del Don/Rusia and the University of Connecticut.
