Things are improving on the sloping hills and verdant green this summer. NCCU is implementing project “Restore the Bowl” in the area traditionally known as the Greek Bowl, just outside of Shepard Library.
The three-phase project includes updating the plots of the “Divine Nine” Greek-letter organizations and the addition of an NCCU plot in honor of the university. An amphitheater will provide seating, and a staged pergola will create a venue for impromptu entertainment. “The goal is to make the area accessible to all of NCCU,” said Robin Hanes-Featherstone, assistant director of Greek Life. “We’ve found ways to incorporate the entire community in this project.”
The entire project is slated for completion by the start of the fall semester and was funded in part through the Home Depot Retool Your School contest. Last year NCCU was selected as one of 10 HBCUs to receive a grant of $10,000.
