William Moultrie, J.D., interim dean of NCCU University College

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) has named William R. Moultrie, J.D., interim dean of University College. Mr. Moultrie began his new role on Jan. 2, 2019. A national search will commence this spring for a new dean of University College.

In this role, Mr. Moultrie will provide leadership in academic advising, Academic Coaching Services, the first-year experience course, the Office of Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, supplemental instruction and tutoring, University Testing and the Writing Studio. He will also be responsible for ensuring the continued successful implementation of NCCU’s Student Support Services Program and the Aspiring Eagles Academy Summer Bridge Program. Most importantly, he will lead the charge in NCCU’s first-year student retention and student success efforts. Mr. Moultrie will report to the senior associate vice chancellor for Enrollment Management.

Mr. Moultrie has been with NCCU for seven years in various roles within University College. During his tenure in the Academic Success and Enrichment Services Department of University College, Mr. Moultrie led the redesign of the Aspiring Eagles Academy Summer Bridge Program to achieve a 50 percent four-year graduation rate (2014 cohort), implemented the annual Graduate School Exposure Tour, assisted in the rebranding of the NCCU Lyceum Series and served as the activity coordinator for University College’s multi-million-dollar Title III program.

His research interests include urban schooling, retention, persistence, graduation, student success, college access and choice and multiculturalism and diversity in higher education. Mr. Moultrie is active in academic and scholarly endeavors. He has published numerous papers and has presented research at numerous national conferences and meetings. Over the course of his career, he has secured or managed millions of dollars to support student-success initiatives. Recently, Mr. Moultrie was elected vice president and president-elect of the Association of Deans and Directors of University Colleges and Undergraduate Studies at the organization’s 32nd annual meeting in Houston, Texas.

Mr. Moultrie graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Marketing from Albany State University. He furthered his studies at Albany State University earning a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and later a Juris Doctor from NCCU School of Law.

·      Dr. Kesha Lee: Interim Associate Dean

·      Ms. Angela Street: Interim Executive Director of Student Success
