Department of Music professors Isrea Butler, Ph.D., and Ralph Barrett, Ph.D., lent their talents to the Colour of Music Orchestra, a Charleston, S.C., based classical orchestra comprised of the top black classical musicians in the United States.

The group performed at the Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh, Penn., during the Colour of Music Festival in February. The festival showcases leading black classical artists while highlighting the Baroque and Early Classical periods in music.

Under the direction of Emmy award-winning composer John Christopher Wineglass, the group performed “Unburied, Unmourned, Unmarked: Requiem for Rice,” classical compositions that serve as a tribute to slaves who worked on rice plantations in South Carolina and Georgia. View a replay of the concert here.
