Making strides in business comes naturally for a talented business leader such as NCCU alumnus and former Board of Trustees vice chairman John Barbee.

Barbee was recently appointed as vice president of sales and marketing for the American Cultivation & Extraction Services (ACES), where he will lead development efforts for the vertically-integrated grower, producer and wholesale distributor of CBD products.

Prior to joining ACES, Barbee served as president of JB and L Associates, a consulting firm based in Greensboro, N.C. Under his leadership, the firm developed strategic marketing plans for consumer-goods manufacturers involving large retailers such as Sam’s Club, Walgreen’s and Costco.

Barbee built his reputation as an industry leader in sales and marketing with the pharmaceutical and nutritional products industries.

Most recently, he served in executive positions at Banner Pharmacaps, where he was senior vice president for consumer product sales and marketing, and also senior vice president for its nutritional and consumer product sales division.

As a longtime supporter of the university, Barbee has been a member of several committees, including the NCCU School of Business Board of Visitors as well as Board of Trustees, where he served as vice chairman.

NCCU prepared me with a foundation for success, my education provided the directional process for handling business and life. I often reflect on the education I received from the sloping hills and verdant green of NCCU

He has been president of the NCCU Eagle Club as well as immediate past president of the Greensboro Chapter of the NCCU Alumni Association Inc.

Barbee earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from NCCU in 1973. During his time at the university, he was inducted into the Tau Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and played defensive tackle and served on special teams for four years as an Eagle football team member.

Barbee was inducted into NCCU’s Alex M. Rivera Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006 and, in 2014, was given the Distinguished American Award by the Bill Dooley Triangle/East Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.

Being an excellent listener and planner is key to success,” he advises future business leaders.
