What Is VLC?
The abbreviation of "
Video LAN Client", Wikipedia describes this program as a multimedia player, supporting many audio and video
codecs and
file formats as well as
DVDs,
VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It is able to stream over networks and to transcode multimedia files and save them into various formats... a
cross-platform media player, with versions for MS Windows, Mac OS X, GNU, Linux, iOS and many others. With the
portable version, you can use it directly from your flash drive (
without the need to install it on your system's hard drive). Many NCCU web users prefer VLC (as an alternative to QuickTime) to play our streaming content.
