The Office of Legal Affairs' responsibilities to the university include:
Legal Advice and Counsel
This includes contract drafting, negotiation, and review, interpretation of federal and state laws, handling internal and external administrative and regulatory matters and complaints, policy review and development, and general legal education of the campus community.
Litigation Support
We gather factual information and assist the Office of the Attorney General in the development and furtherance of the University's position in judicial and administrative forums.
Preventive Counseling
We provide timely and effective legal advice before legal problems arise in order to prevent or minimize legal liability.

Legal Compliance
Title IX and Sexual Misconduct
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (20 U.S.C. 1681, et seq.) prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs or activities operated by recipients of federal financial assistance.
Clery Compliance
The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (“Clery Act”), originally called the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act, was passed in 1990 and has been amended and reauthorized on several occasions since its original passage.
Public Records
North Carolina Central University, as a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina and an agency of the State of North Carolina, is open and responsive to information requests from the public and the news media.
Student Records
The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act ("FERPA") (20 U.S.C. 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records maintained by institutions that receive funding from the US Department of Education.
Personnel Records
Personnel records of all employees at North Carolina Central University are maintained by the Department of Human Resources (“HR”) and by the department in which the employee works. For more information regarding the records maintained by HR, contact HR at 919- 530-6334.
