What is required to use VoiceThread at NCCU?

The Center for University Teaching and Learning has purchased a campus-wide license of VoiceThread through June 2012. During this evaluation period, there is no cost to NCCU faculty, staff and students. There are few additional things you'll need to take advantage of VoiceThread.

To view and listen to a VoiceThread, you need:

  • An active NCCU MyEOL username and password
  • A computer with an internet connection and Adobe's Flash Player plugin. Most computers have the Flash Player installed. If you've ever watched a YouTube video, your computer has the Flash Player. If not, you can find it here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
  • Speakers or headphones to hear audio

If you want to record audio or video you'll also need:

  • Either a webcam, to record audio and video, or a microphone to record audio only. Many newer laptops and some desktops have built-in webcams and microphones. You need only a keyboard if you want to just leave text comments.

Most retail stores that sell electronics have webcams and microphone headsets. There are many brands, and most any type will work. At the Center, we use Logitech H530 headsets and Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 webcam.
