How do I take out a warrant on someone? Why did an officer tell me to take out a warrant on someone?
Under state law, officers may make a misdemeanor arrest only if the offense is committed in their presence. Therefore, an officer may tell you that you need to take out a warrant against the offender. Example: If someone assaults you and the officer tells you to go take out a warrant on the suspect, you must go to the County Magistrate's Office at the Durham County Jail, 219 S. Mangum St., located on the corner of Mangum and Pettigrew Streets in downtown Durham. It may take several days to process a warrant. If you know the suspect’s location, notify the University Police at (919) 530-6106
