Crime Alert

On Sunday, April 14, shortly after 1 a.m., NCCU Police responded to a report of an assault near the intersection of Cecil Street and Alston Avenue. Four young black male juvenile suspects approached two students (a male and a female) as they crossed the street toward the Exxon station. The suspects pushed the male student down to the ground and punched and kicked him. The victim received minor abrasions about his hands and knees and was taken to the emergency room at Duke University Hospital for treatment.

A Durham police officer, working off-duty at the nearby Burger King, witnessed the assault. The officer took appropriate actions, which resulted in the arrest of three juveniles. Two other juveniles were not located. This group of juveniles are suspected in committing an attempted robbery last week on Cecil Street involving a NCCU student. These cases are still under investigation by NCCU and Durham police.
