North Carolina Central University is ranked in StateUniversity.com's national Safe Schools Index, and received StateUniversity's Top 14 ranking in the website's Highest Safety Rating for North Carolina universities.

The campus is protected by a Police Department that includes 29 sworn police officers and 22 security officers. The NCCU Police Department works supportively with the Police Department of the City of Durham, which itself has two patrol beats adjacent to the campus.

NCCU is pro-active when it comes to safety. Students and staff receive e-mails alerts reminding the campus what to do if a thief or other threat presents itself. Better safe than sorry!
