The Staff Senate represents all non-faculty personnel at NCCU. The Staff Senate acts as a conduit or voice for staff on training, concerns or issues that impact staff and the university.

Preamble:
The Staff Senate of North Carolina Central University, hereby accepts its responsibility for the growth and development of the University. Believing that the governance of the University not only affects its academic life but the life of its staff, we establish through this constitution, a mechanism for advising the Chancellor of the University all of the issues and concerns relevant to the staff of the University.

Purpose:
The Staff Senate serves at the request of and in an advisory capacity to the Chancellor and his/her designees. It represents SPA and EPA Non-faculty staff, who are designated herein as "University Staff". The Staff Senate has three primary purposes; they are as follows:

  1. To Provide a regular, open forum to facilitate communication among all levels of Staff and the University administration concerning general employment interests and concern, current University operation problems, and University plans or prospects. However, The Staff Senate is not intended to act as a vehicle to deal with individual issues. grievances, or complaints, except as may be decided collectively by the Staff Senate. The Senate is not to be used as a means to circumvent regular administrative channels.
  2. Participation in the Senate's committee meetings by Staff other than delegates is at the distretion of individual staff, who must obtain support and approval from their supervisors to have this service treated as work time.
  3. Attendance at the Senate's semi-annual Community Meetings is considered work time for all Staff (when the Meeting(s) occur during the Staff regular work schedule). However, Staff should receive approval from their supervisors in advance to attend Community Meetings.
